Week 4 is almost over and it’s time to see how we can improve our teams heading into week 5! This weeks waiver wire has some upside pick-ups, injury fill-ins, and streaming options, so let’s get right into it!
DET QB Jared Goff (33.6% Owned)
Goff exploded last week in a plus matchup against the Seahawks, and that was without 2 of his top weapons in Amon-Ra St. Brown and DeAndre Swift. Goff now has another plus matchup against the Patriots with the chance that one or both of those weapons come back. His is my favorite streamer QB of the week if he is available in your leagues.
ATL RB Tyler Allgeier (0.9% Owned)
News broke on Monday that Falcons starting RB Cordarelle Patterson will be hitting injured reserve with a knee injury. Patterson left the game last week early with the injury and in his absence we saw a split. 10 carries each for Allgeier and fellow backfield mate Caleb Huntley. While a split is likely in Patterson's absence, the Falcons have been working Allgeier in for weeks and I would suspect he will be the leader in carries in the split.
WAS RB Brian Robinson (42.8% Owned)
We all loved Brian Robinson in the off-season as he was eating away at Antonio Gibson’s starting role and unfortunately that was put on hold when he was injured in the attempted carjacking just a week before the season. We are through 4 weeks, Robinson has been working out with the team for weeks now, and he is eligible to be activated from injured reserve this week. Don’t wait for his performance to add him. Add him now and beat the waiver wire rush if he performs well. Additional advice… if he has a slow start in week 5, hold him one extra week. I expect the Commanders to ease him in, so do not overreact if Gibson is still the carries leader in week 5.
IND RB Nyheim Hines (20.9% Owned)
Welcome back to RB handcuffs, this weeks featured back… Nyheim Hines! Jonathan Taylor went down this week with an ankle injury that isn’t considered long term, but the Colts play on Thursday, so that will make it tough for Taylor to go on a short week. If he doesn’t go, expect an expanded workload for the pass catching back in the run game.
MIA RB Raheem Mostert (27.5% Owned)
Mostert makes a repeat appearance on the column after 2 weeks ago I was intrigued by his usage. Fast forward to last Thursday and Mostert led the Dolphins with 15 carries for a nice 69 yards, and added on 2 catches for 12 yards. The next closest back in usage was Chase Edmonds with only 5 carries for 6 yards. The biggest worry I have with Mostert is his redzone usage, that appears to be the place where Chase Edmonds still leads in that backfield, but he did see a bit of redzone work this past week, so maybe that is changing too. It’s also worth noting that 4 of Mostert’s next 5 matchups are positive matchups against the RB position.
GB WR Romeo Doubs (33.9% Owned)
The young Packers WR also makes a repeat appearance on this column after following up his solid week 3 with a 8 targets, 5 catches for 47 yards and a touchdown. Not the flashiest statline, but he was again tied for the team lead in targets with Allen Lazard and I expect that to continue at least for the short term while Sammy Watkins is on IR. Doubs is a high upside pickup heading into week 5 with the future hall of famer Aaron Rodgers throwing to him.
PIT WR George Pickens (33.6% Owned)
The Steelers made the switch this week from QB Mitch Trubisky to rookie Kenny Pickett and that was the week that we saw an emergence of George Pickens. Is it a coincidence? I think not. The rookies really showed some chemistry in the 2nd half of the Steelers week 4 game and that could continue if Pickett remains the starter. Stock up, Pickens. Stock down, Diontae Johnson.
Tennessee Titans D/ST (13.5% Owned)
My streaming defense of the week belongs to the Tennessee Titans and I get it, not the fanciest looking defense. But for a widely available defense, they are coming off of a 13 point performance against the 31st ranked offense in fantasy and now they face the 30th in the Commanders.
