Week 1 is almost over and it’s time to start looking at the waiver wire. This article each week will highlight some of the best players to add on the waiver wire who are owned in less than 50% of fantasy leagues. Let’s take a look at this week’s top adds.
NO QB Jameis Winston (Owned 34%)
If you need a backup QB, or maybe even a starter, Winston is your guy. The former top 10 fantasy QB is finally starting again and playing at a high level. The only question is will he keep avoiding the turnovers, but if he wants to put up performances like this past Sunday, a few turnovers won’t hurt.
SF RB Elijah Mitchell (Owned 0.3%
Once again, the San Francisco backfield is an absolute mess. Sunday started with Trey Sermon being inactive. Then, Raheem Mostert turned his first 2 carries into 20 yards, and yet again got hurt. The man to step in was Elijah Mitchell and he put up a solid fantasy day. San Francisco tends to stick to the hot hand, so Mitchell should have value for at least next week, maybe beyond.
HOU RB Mark Ingram (Owned 3.4%)
Houston had low expectations coming into the season and ended up being the only AFC South team to win this weekend. Playing with a lead most of the day, Mark Ingram got a healthy workload and appears to be the RB to own in that committee. Again, it is a committee, David Johnson and Phillip Lindsay saw a good amount of work as well, so temper your expectations, but Ingram could be a decent play in a pinch.
ATL RB/WR Cordarrelle Patterson (Owned 0.2%)
Patterson didn’t put up the most impressive week 1 stat line, but he is worth a speculative add based on his usage. The veteran gadget player was used all over the field. He lined up at WR at times and was also used as the complimentary back behind starting RB Mike Davis. The mix of rushing yards and receptions makes him a potential PPR league sleeper
ARI WR Christian Kirk (Owned 2.6%)
Arizona put on an offensive clinic this weekend and there were a lot of receivers involved, but maybe the most impressive was Christian Kirk. The Cardinals are known for their air it out style and that fits Kirk perfectly, which is probably why he was the teams WR 2 in week 1. Keep an eye on the teams usage of rookie WR Rondale Moore in the coming weeks. Until Moore gets more snaps, Kirk is an asset to fantasy owners
NE WR Nelson Agholor (Owned 15%)
Agholor has officially escaped the media storm he caused in Philly 2 years ago. I’m willing to call that now. He played like a solid WR in Vegas last year, and now started 2021 with a 5 catch, 72 yard, and 1 TD performance week 1. Not to mention, his prospects look better with Mac Jones at QB now that the Patriots cut Cam Newton.
DAL TE Dalton Schultz (Owned 2.4%)
Everyone is fishing for TEs, so I felt like I needed to add one to the end of this weeks waiver wire. Schultz is another guy who didn’t have the most impressive week 1, but he had volume. In his first game returning from injury, Schultz was targeted 6 times and hauled in all 6. If he can get that many targets each week, there is little doubt he can sneak into the top 10 among tight ends.
