Week 1 is in the books and as always, we had some surprises. There are a few who could really help your fantasy teams, so let's see who they are!
NO QB Jameis Winston (30.8% Owned)
Are you an owner who now has to deal with the Day Prescott injury news? Did your QB not perform up to par in week 1? Well, maybe your answer at the position is simple… Jameis Winston! Winston averaged about 18 fantasy points per game last year before his ACK injury and came out this year putting up 20 in week 1. He is surrounded with a ton of weapons now too, so even more reason to believe sustained success is coming.
SF RB Jeff Wilson Jr. (0.4% Owned)
Starting RB Eli Mitchell did not finish the 49ers contest vs the Bears on the slip n’ slide due to a knee injury. Mitchell is expected to miss at least a few weeks. While Deebo Samuel will be getting more touches if Mitchell misses time, the next true RB up is Jeff Wilson. Wilson is someone who has show success in the past, and the opportunity makes him a great add this week.
PIT RB Jaylen Warren (0.4% Owned)
Warren marks the second injury replacment RB to watch on this weeks waiver wire. Starter Najee Harris left the game this past week with a foot injury. It is worth noting that it is not considered serious, but he has been dealing with a foot injury for awhile now so the fact that it could be related is significant. Warren received all of the RB work after Harris left the game, so he could be a huge add if Harris continues to see issues with his foot injury.
ARI RB Eno Benjamin (0.3% Owned)
I get it. Not a sexy pickup. He didn’t do that amazing in week 1. But week 1 showed us the explosion that the Cardinals coaching staff has been raving about when it comes to Benjamin. Pass catching opportunity also appears to be there for Eno as he caught 3 passes for 33 yards. This may be more of a wait and see kind of add, but its never bad to add an explosive piece of a dynamic offense.
TEN RB Dontrell Hilliard (0.5% Owned)
Hilliard was a bit of a shock from week 1 as he supplied most of the Titans offense. He reached the end zone twice despite only touching the ball 5 times. While that seems like a trap, someone who supplied that much explosion, especially as a pass catching RB on a team that was disappointing at the TE position this week, definitely shows that there could be a permanent check-down kind of role for Hilliard this season.
NO WR Jarvis Landry (27.6% Owned)
Welcome back to the old PPR monster we remember. Jarvis Landry looked at home with his new team in New Orleans during a very productive week 1. Landry led the team in targets and catches (9 and 7) and turned it into 114 yards. While all of the attention went to Michael Thomas who had 2 TDs in his return, I am very in one Landry who appears to be a favorite for Jameis Winston.
WAS WR Curtis Samuel (4.0% Owned)
There were whispers of this coming through camp. I don’t think any of us believed it, but a FINALLY healthy Curtis Samuel took over against the Jags in week 1. There are some promising signs for Samuel’s future here. He got the QB upgrade this year to Carson Wentz, led the team in targets (11), receptions (8), and had 4 carries on top of that. Washington wanted to get him involved early and often, and they did, and you should want to get him involved with your roster ASAP.
BAL WR Devin Duvernay (0.5% Owned)
WR 1 in Baltimore this week was played by Rashad Bateman as we expected, but Devin Duvernay appears to be running the Marquise Brown role in the Ravens offense and doing it well. He had 2 impressive TD catches in week 1 and definitely showed some chemistry with Lamar Jackson. We never love playing WRs from this run first system, but we tend to forget how effective Marquise Brown was last season in fantasy, and there’s a chance that Duvernay can take a good piece of that role.
