Congrats to everyone who made it to their fantasy championships! If we learned anything from week 16, it was that any given week, players from the waiver wire who are getting a shot for whatever reason can lead you to a victory. If you are someone who added and played someone like Justin Jackson, Rex Burkhead, Isiah McKenzie, or Byron Pringle in week 16, you know exactly what I mean. There are no more long term waiver wire adds, but lets do our best to spot out the best plays off the wire for week 17!
CHECK IF AVAILABLE: TB RB Ronald Jones, LAR RB Sony Michel, BUF RB Devin Singletary, DET WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, ARI WR Christian Kirk
SF QB Trey Lance (13.7% Owned)
If you have listened to us, you know Cody is jumping for joy at the moment because he was telling you to hold Trey Lance if you could because of this juicy championship matchup vs Houston. It seemed like it wouldn’t matter until we got the news that Jimmy Garoppolo injured his thumb and is unlikely to play. Lance brings not only a great matchup to the table, but also the running ability that we crave at the QB position in fantasy. I am looking for Lance anywhere that I am not locked into a top fantasy QB.
KC RB Darrel Williams (57.8% Owned)
Williams is still widely owned from his time as the starter when CEH missed time earlier in the season. CEH is again hurt and is unlikely to play in week 17, again opening the door for Williams to see an expanded workload. He was already relevant some weeks with CEH in, no doubt he could be a good play this week against a mid-tier Cincinnati rush defense.
PHI RBs Jordan Howard (2.9% Owned) & Boston Scott (4.5% Owned)
Miles Sanders again looked effective for the Eagles before leaving the game with a broken hand. That injury has him out for week 17. Jordan Howard was also banged up in the game and was diagnosed with a neck stinger. If Howard is cleared and appears to be a full go, I expect a big game from him this week. If he is out or limited, look for Boston Scott to get a big look and score plenty of points in championship week.
JAX RB Dare Ogunbowale (0.1% Owned)
Ogunbowale has moved up the depth chart from 3rd to 1st over the past few weeks thanks to the James Robinson achilles injury and Carloe Hyde being placed on IR. This is not the best play considering a matchup against a tough Patriots defense, but flex desperate teams who miss out on some of the others in this article will enjoy the fact that he received 17 carries and 4 targets in week 16. Ogunbowale has traditionally been a pass catching back, so even if the Jaguars fall down early in this matchup, he should still receive some passing down work.
BUF WR Isaiah McKenzie (0.1% Owned)
Buffalo’s WR room had a major shake up this past week with both Gabriel Davis and Cole Beasley testing positive for COVID. Both of them are unvaccinated. Davis is out for week 17 and Beasley is questionable. If Beasley misses the game, I definitely suggest considering McKenzie. If Beasley is back, it could put a damper on his performance, but as the guy who will get all of the practice time, McKenzie could still slot right into the Gabriel Davis role and still have a great game. It is also worth noting his matchup is against a poor Atlanta defense.
CAR WR Robby Anderson (34.8% Owned)
Anderson is coming off of a 10 target game and has been much more involved in the Panthers offense in the last 3 weeks. The biggest concern with him is the carousel of QBs that the Panthers are using, but it seems like regarldless of the QB, Anderson is working out of his early season slump and is slowly becoming that high ceiling WR we remember.
