Week 3 Power Rankings

Writer's picture: The Couch GMsThe Couch GMs

Yes, I’m starting the power rankings in week 3. As a growing podcast, we will continue to have segments and content increase as time goes on. And sometimes, that means starting power rankings in week 3. In an effort to keep this Podcast fantasy oriented, I will also be including a fantasy “my guy” with each team. A my guy is a player that I really like and want to try to have as many ownerships of wherever I can. And it’s not always the teams best fantasy player. Written by Tyler Snyder.

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs are reigning world champs with a strong offense and elite defense. On top of that, they are 2-0 and haven’t shown any clear signs of weakness yet. Hard to rank them any lower. Fantasy My Guy: Rob Gronkowski

2. Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs actually showed signs of weakness this week against the Ravens. The defense struggled to contain a mobil QB which is bad news in the Era of Lamar, Murray, Hurts, and others. They also show a lack of a #3 weapon on offense after Hill and Kelce. It remains to be seen who will emerge to that role. Fantasy My Guy: Travis Kelce

3. Los Angeles Rams

Avid listeners know that I think Matt Stafford is a little overrated. However, it’s hard to argue that he fits the team well. The offense is humming and is loaded with weapons. Cooper Kupp looks like he’s on pace for offensive player of the year considerations. On the other side, the Rams defense is easily top 5 in the league, probably even top 3. These are going to be hard guys to stop. Fantasy My Guy: Cooper Kupp

4. Buffalo Bills

Yes, the Bills lost In week 1. But they made a STATEMENT in week 2. The Bills are still a strong competitor for this season and an AFC Super Bowl favorite. Fantasy My Guy: Josh Allen

5. San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers are definitely struggling at the RB position but that hasn’t kept them out of the win column. The Eagles looked like a dominant offense in week 1 and looked flat in week 2. That’s greatly in part of the 49ers defense and as we know, defenses win championships. Fantasy My Guy: Deebo Samuel

6. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens beat the Chiefs! They should be higher! Are we forgetting they lost to the Raiders? And even after 2 big wins, is anyone really sold on the Raiders yet? I think Lamar is controlling the ball better this season but I think their entire offense relies on his legs. If he’s running freely, the Ravens won’t be stopped. But unlike QBs like Kyler Murray and Josh Allen, I feel like if you stop him from running, he doesn’t have as great of a pocket presence to command the offense solely off of his arm. All that aside, very few teams have found ways to slow down Lamar so the Ravens are still a top contender moving forward. Fantasy My Guy: Marquise Brown

7. Arizona Cardinals

I really wanted to rank them higher but I wasn’t sure if it was truly because they deserve it or because of my personal Ravens bias. The Cards are fun to watch. Kyler has the scrambling ability you love to watch out of Lamar, the big throws you love to see out of guys like Josh Allen, and the playmaking ability you love out of Russel Wilson. Murray is my current favorite for MVP at this point in the season. They also have some exciting receivers between Hopkins, Kirk, and Moore. And let’s not count out some of the most exciting defensive pieces in guys like Chandler Jones and Budda Baker. Big things are coming from the Cardinals this year. Wear her they are truly a superbowl contender or not remains to be seen.

Fantasy My Guy: Rondale Moore

8. Cleveland Browns

The Browns did take a hit by losing Jarvis Landry And we still don’t know what to expect from Odell Beckham. Typically when a team loses top receivers like this, you look at their WR depth to see how they will fill in the gaps. However, the Browns might turn towards their depth at Tight End to fill in these holes. Njoku, Bryant, and Hooper could all see an uptick in targets in the coming weeks. Fantasy My Guy: David Njoku

9. Green Bay Packers

The Packers pulled off a big come from behind win on Monday night against the Lions. They ended up winning big in the end, but the issue is the fact that they even needed to come from behind against a not very good Lions team. This only 1 week after getting blown out by the Saints. I have the Packers top 10 because I know what they are capable of, but if they can’t figure their defensive struggles out soon, they will drop in these rankings quickly. Fantasy My Guy: Robert Tonyan

10. Seattle Seahawks

The Seahawks are coming off a heartbreaking loss to the Titans in OT. The Seahawks have a good defense and a dynamic offense filled with playmakers, however, their biggest issue is they are just too predictable. The “do what works” method of play calling only works until… it doesn’t. That‘s what happened this week. Titans defense figured out what the Seahawks were doing and plainly just stopped it. This could be a big problem if it doesn’t change moving forward. Fantasy My Guy: Tyler Lockett

11. Las Vegas Raiders

I’ll be honest. If any above mentioned team beat the Ravens and Steelers in consecutive weeks to start the season they would likely be ranked top 3. But it’s the Raiders… I don’t think I’m alone when I say it’s really hard to trust them. As a fan of underdogs, it’s hard not to love what I’m seeing from the Raiders and cheer them on.

Fantasy My Guy: Henry Ruggs

12. Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have some big names on offense but they’ve always been known for their strong defense. So injuries to key defensive players have them vulnerable right now. Fantasy My Guy: Chase Claypool

13. Denver Broncos

A lot like the Raiders, it’s hard to buy in to the Broncos just yet. However, a 2-0 start is hard to argue with. I’ll wait to see more from Denver before buying in too much. Fantasy My Guy: Tim Patrick

14. Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers have the guys on offense to put up points and the guys on defense to make the big stops. The big question that remains is if Justin Herbert has what it takes to bring the Chargers to the next level or not. Fantasy My Guy: Keenan Allen

15. Tennessee Titans

The Titans really need to clean up the mistakes on defense. But most of all, they need to figure out their offensive line issues. Luckily for them, the Texans and Jags are not a serious threat to them in the division and if the Titans can beat the Jacob Eason led Colts this Sunday, they will have a 2 game lead and head to head edge over the division rival. Fantasy My Guy: Derrick Henry

16. Carolina Panthers

The only reason I have the Panthers this low as of now is because of how bad they were supposed to be this season. The Panthers were projected to be a bottom 5 team in the league but are off to a great start. McCaffrey looks like his old self and Sam Darnold has settled into his new home quite well. The defense might be the biggest surprise and look like a big waiver add this week facing off against the Texans on Thursday. Fantasy My Guy: DJ Moore

17. New England Patriots

I hate seeing a good QB on the Patriots after they were spoiled with Brady for so many years, but that’s what we have in Mac Jones. One of the best performing rookie QBs, Jones has led his team well despite a lack of visible talent at WR. Fantasy My Guy: Damien Harris

18. Dallas Cowboys

Like most football fans, I’ve always rooted against the Cowboys. Not this year though. Dak is an awesome comeback story and I‘m excited to see him doing well. Also, the Cowboys have been mediocre for a LONG time. Haven’t they suffered enough? I’m ready for an NFC East team to finally step up and take charge of this division and I think the Cowboys have the best chance of doing that.

Fantasy My Guy: Tony Pollard

19. New Orleans Saints

The Saints came out big in week 1 dominating the Packers but fell flat in week 2 losing to the Panthers. It remains to be seen which Saints team is for real.

Fantasy My Guy: Alvin Kamara

20. Indianapolis Colts

Look… the Colts were a playoff favorite. to some, even a SuperBowl contender. But with Wentz out, and a tough schedule against Tennessee, Miami, and Baltimore, the Colts have a very real possibility of starting the season 0-5 with Jacob Eason at the helm. Very hard to see the upside after that. Fantasy My Guy: Jonathan Taylor

21. Washington Football Team

Just like the past 2 seasons, the NFC East is up for grabs. I told you earlier that I think the Cowboys are the front runners for that division. I think the Football Team is second with a slight edge over Philly. The reason is because of the front 7. Never in my years of fandom have I seen a front 7 that can disrupt a game quite as much as this one. Pressure on the QB breeds mistakes and mistakes can change a game. Fantasy My Guy: Terry McLauren

22. Philadelphia Eagles

A lot of people were buying into the Eagles hype after week 1 and they were shooting up rankings but I wasn‘t sold. The Falcons have been an unimpressive team for years and beating them wasn’t such a big feat. They had a much better opportunity to impress in week 2 against a bigger competitor in the 49ers and fell flat. The offense couldn’t move, the defense was plagued with big injuries, all in all I don’t think the Eagles are quite a competitive team yet. They have a bright future though. Fantasy My Guy: DeVonta Smith

23. Minnesota Vikings

On paper the Vikings really aren’t a bad team. But on the field they really are a lackluster team. They are currently dealing with a lot of injuries on the defensive side of the ball and should improve once they get those players back.

Fantasy My Guy: Justin Jefferson

24. Miami Dolphins

Question for the fans: Are the Dolphins better or worse without Tua? I feel like we gave up on Tua really quickly. I’m curious to see what change Will Fuller brings to the offense. Adding a speedster that can take the top off defenses can go a long way. Fantasy My Guy: Miles Gaskin

25. Chicago Bears

I strongly believe the Bears could be a true competitor if Fields is the starter moving forward. I respect Andy Dalton but I’m over the experiment. Fantasy My Guy: Allen Robinson

26. Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are a frustrating team for fantasy because you don’t know which of the three receivers to play on a weekly basis. But I think they have one of the brightest futures of all the teams in the bottom half. I can’t wait for them to take the next step. Fantasy My Guy: Tee Higgins

27. New York Giants

I predicted the Giants to win the division in preseason. I know that sounds crazy, but the division is still weak in my opinion and the Giants have the pieces to be a solid team. I originally thought it was Daniel Jones holding them back but after watching them more and more I think it’s just bad coaching. Fantasy My Guy: Sterling Shepard

28. Atlanta Falcons

I honestly didn’t think the loss of Julio would be that big of a blow for the Falcons but apparently I was wrong. I keep waiting for improvements from them offseason after off-season but it’s just not there. Fantasy My Guy: Calvin Ridley

29. Detroit Lions

I think Jared Goff found his fit. I don’t mean that sarcastically. Outside of some mishandling of a wet football on Monday night, Goff has mad a horrible offense look impressive. I just wish they had a little defense.

Fantasy My Guy: Quintez Cephus

30. Houston Texans

The Texans actually looked good with Tyrod Taylor to everyone’s surprise. But with Davis Mills? Good luck…

Fantasy My Guy: Brandin Cooks

31. Jacksonville Jaguars

Looks like the Jags needed more than just Trevor Lawrence to be relevant. Fantasy My Guy: DJ Chark

32. New York Jets

I really don’t think Zach Wilson is as bad as he’s playing right now. I’m not sure if he’s trying to do too much or if he’s just struggling to adapt to the NFL but on the bright side, he can only go up from here. Fantasy My Guy: Corey Davis
